Writing organizations are a great way to network, find out about writing conferences, get feedback from others familiar with industry standards for your genre, find a writers’ group, and get support when you’re feeling discouraged. Check out these sites, and you might be surprised at how not alone you suddenly feel.
Children’s (picture books and beginning readers), YA, and Middle Grade
SCBWI is THE organization for anyone wanting to publish children’s material.
Romance and Women’s Fiction
Romance Divas is about support in writing romance, not competition.
Romance Writers of America hosts more than 10,000 members supporting each other in romance writing. They also sponsor writing conferences focused on the genre.
WOW! Women on Writing is about women writers supporting each other.
American Night Writers Association is an organization all about LDS women writers supporting each other and networking.
Thriller, Mystery, and Horror
Horror Writers Association has been helping horror writers for 20 years.
Mystery Writers of America is a boon to mystery and suspense writers everywhere—published or not.
International Thriller Writers boasts some of the biggest names in writing, but the site is focused on helping everyone succeed.
Fantasy/Sci-Fi
SFWA boasts big names and is highly beneficial for those published in this genre, but there is much on the site available to the novice and professional alike.
